Investor – Educator – Author
‘I really like teaching. I’ve been doing it formally and, you could say, somewhat informally all my life’
– Warren Buffett –
Whether on the stock market or in education: it’s always about understanding systems, thinking long-term and taking responsibility for the future.
‘Why investment and education?’
At first glance, the world of numbers and the world of education seem worlds apart. But on closer inspection, both follow the same principle: Sustainable growth arises from an understanding of systems and the courage to think long-term.
Investing is teaching!
1. Long-Term Thinking (Compound Interest)
Investment
Invest capital today so that it grows over decades through compound interest.
Education
Invest your time and resources in a young person today. The “reward” will only become apparent years later in a more stable character.
Commonality: In both cases, you have to have the patience not immediately reaping the rewards you want.
2. The Understanding of systems
Investment
A good investor teaches himself (and others), how economic systems work. He looks behind-the-scenes of the numbers.
Education
A good teacher understands the social and psychological systems, in which children develop.
Commonality: Both require the ability to analyze complex structures and to make them understandable.
3. The role of the mentor
Investment
Warren Buffett sees himself as a teacher, because he shares knowledge to make others capable to act. He not only gives you stock tips, but teaches you the philosophy of ‘Value’, so that you make wise decisions.
Pädagogik
A teacher gives you not only the facts, but the tools to think for yourself.
4. Responsibility for the future
Investment
How will I be financially free?
Pädagogik
How do we prepare the next generation for the future?
‘Investing is to teaching’ means that knowledge is the only resource that increases when you share it.
‘The most important investment you can make is in yourself.’
– Warren Buffett
I was 16 years old when I discovered my passion for the stock market. At the age of 18, I bought my first shares for 200 DM – I own them until today. For over 35 years now, I am private investor now.
My keen interest in different disciplines led me to study economics, political science, history, psychology, law, and education in Lüneburg, Mannheim, and Frankfurt. I served as a principal of a high school, have established an upper secondary level, and set up one of the first inclusive classes at a high school in Lower Saxony. I founded companies and write books. And throughout all the time, I built my portfolio .
I tried many things, made money, and learned some hard lessons. During the dot-com bubble, I lost money because I did what everyone else was doing. Then I began to follow the principles of successful value investors, swam against the current, and learned that knowledge and patience are the true keys to success. I was able to particularly benefit from this knowledge during the subprime crisis. Today, I share this experience..
‘The true Investor is a student of the market, and the true teacher is ani in the future.’
Benjamin Graham
In my book on investing, I show to how to create wealth through analysis and discipline.
My works on education focus on the most valuable asset we possess: the development of the human mind and the transmission of values to the next generation.
Whether it’s compound interest on the stock market or the development of a child, success is not a matter of chance, but the result of sound knowledge and the right strategy. My aim is to make complex concepts understandable so that you can make the right decisions in both areas of life.
